Benefits to
Consumers
Resort-timeshare owners secure substantial personal
benefits from their purchases. For example:

increase from 69.2 percent in 1995 and 72.9 percent in 1992.
- 72.5 percent agree they have experienced more
vacation destinations, a noticeable increase from 67.1 percent in 1995
and 57.1 percent in 1992.
- 71.5 percent agree they have had a wider range
of vacation experiences since owning resort timesharing, up
significantly from 67.8 percent in 1995 and 57.8 percent in 1992.
- 70.8 percent agree they have stayed in higher
quality resorts, compared to 70 percent in both 1995 and 1992.
- 77.8 percent believe resort timesharing has had
a positive impact on their looking forward to vacations.
- Before owning resort timesharing, respondents
averaged 11.8 vacation days away from home annually. Since owning
resort timesharing, respondents report an average of 16.1 vacation days
away from home annually.
Exchange Opportunity
- 98.3 percent of respondents say the exchange
opportunity was important in their decision to purchase resort
timesharing, including 84.4 percent who say it was very important. The
importance of the exchange opportunity increased from 97.9 percent in
1995 and 91.9 percent in 1992.
- While 39 percent of respondents used some or all
of their "home resort" timeshare intervals during the past year, most
respondents (57.8 percent) exchanged to another resort. This exchange
percentage is a significant increase from 52.1 percent in 1995 and 43.4
percent in 1992.
- Throughout their years of ownership, respondents
have averaged more vacations in exchange accommodations (5.8 times)
than in their "home resort" accommodations (4.4 times). This average
number of vacations in exchange accommodations is an increase from 4.3
times in 1995 and 2.3 times in 1992.
Other Reasons to Buy
In addition to the ability to exchange, respondents
cite other benefits as important in deciding to purchase resort
timesharing.
- 98.7 percent of respondents say the certainty of
quality accommodations was important.
- 97.7 percent say that resort timesharing is a
good value for the money.
- 95.7 percent say they liked their home resort,
amenities and unit.
- 95.4 percent say the credibility of the
timeshare company was important in their decision to purchase.
